Time to get started again!

I’m going to be working a bit on the art this book will be illustrated. As the name suggests, it’s going to be full of red pandas. (It won’t be a comic book, though. That’s a little too complicated for me, and would take much, much longer.)

I’m also working on some interview questions. I have some groups and people in mind that I’d like to ask some questions for. For instance, I’m hoping to get in contact with The Second City, an improv club/school that has programs for dealing with anxiety. Not being in the area, I haven’t been able to experience this program – but I have done some improv, and found it immensely helpful. There are also a few mental health groups I’d like to contact.

At this stage, I have ideas about what I want to say – but it’s all pretty disorganized right now. So I just have to push through that and keep fussing with it, and eventually everything will take shape.

Progress is on hold.

Our cat very recently passed, and I am in no condition to continue any projects for the time being. I will alert everyone when I am ready to start working on this again.

Let’s start this project!

Actually, I’ve already started. I’ve been working on the first draft of Red Panda’s Book of Social Anxiety for a month or so, and it’s going along swimmingly. Now I’m at the stage where I need help from other folks, hence this blog now exists. I’ll be doing more work on it later. For now, all the relevant info is here on this Storify post.

One problem I’m going to have to figure out how to overcome is regional differences in social behavior. I’ve lived a number of places in the US, but I haven’t lived everywhere. And I have no idea how to prevent this book from being completely US Centric – at least the social interaction dictionary. So I think what I’m going to have to do is eventually find some other people to work with in making guides to social interactions in other countries.

Red Panda’s Book of Social Anxiety is not at all as daunting as the social interaction dictionary that I want to write. I am hoping, though, that I can get assistance from other folks who have more information than I have.

Keep an eye on this site for more relating to this project. Some initial artwork will be happening soon!
